Someone else claims you as a dependent, and your total earnings are greater than the standard deduction.
Non-Residents of California: You should file state taxes in California IF:
You earned income from a source(s) in the state of California,
AND
Your total income for the tax year is greater than the amounts listed in the minimum income requirements chart (highlighted in the chart above).
Part-Year Residents of California: You should file state taxes in California IF:
Your total California income, which is income you earned while living in California in addition to California-sourced income you earned while you lived outside of the state, is greater than the amount listed in the minimum income requirements chart (highlighted in the chart above).
